Stereotypes

Let me just say this: Stereotypes are a big problem in our society today, especially with our generation. Every day I get put in a new stereotype because of what I wear, what I say, and how I do my make-up. You have to be kidding me! I'm emo one day, prep the next, nerd/geek the third day of the week? I don't think so.

I am who I am, not a title.

I have a speech coming up in English and I have chosen Stereotypes as my topic. This needs to stop and all you guys can help fight against this dilemma.

Open Your Eyes
By: Ines Hedzic

Why can we not accept each other?
Accept that we are all so different and will always be?
Why can we not love the differences that make up you and me?
The differences are what make us creatures of wonder…what sets us apart…
How boring would it be if we were all the same?
So don’t blame but embrace our race…

Don’t you be the reason that makes us cry our eyes out at night
Until we fall asleep
How would you feel, if you were in our shoes…every day?
Don’t say anything to me
That you would not want to be said to you

Stop prejudging and stereotyping me
Before I have even opened my mouth
Why can’t you listen?
Why? Will you ever stop being so ignorant?
And open your eyes?
For once, at least, could you?

Don’t be the person that makes me feel insecure
Ruining my confidence
Stepping on it
As if it were trash
It feels like a knife
Stabbing at my heart
Until it ruptures under all the pressure

Don’t be the person that does this to me
Because in the end
It will all come back to you
All that you did to us
Will be done to you
